Holiday parties

I had my second holiday party in as many days this afternoon. Yesterday was the company party, during which we had the best food of the past ten years of parties. I am a meat eater, and there were several varieties of meat, of which I had some of each, so I was quite satiated by the variety. It wasn't the best door prize year (that would be 2002), but they tried real hard, literally giving everybody a little something, which is probably the better approach. So, very good (and free) food, decent door prizes, and a shorter than usual party makes for a top-five party year.

Today's party was a customer party, and decent, but not one of the best we've had in that regard, I think mostly because of a last minute location change. Our original location was double booked, so we had to move on short notice. I chose to split my time between the farewell lunch of a departing 10-year company employee and the holiday party, which I don't regret, but it turns out I then missed out on a little recognition.

We recently had a unit coin design contest, and my design was chosen (a surprise to me... I didn't feel like mine was the best design). So, during a brief award ceremony (for several awards, i.e. employee of the quarter, etc) prior to the party starting, my design was unveiled and my efforts recognized... only I wasn't there. I was at the aforementioned lunch. Figures.
