Money well lost?

So I got back from my friend's a short while ago, after losing three games of poker. We started probably around seven thirty, so we were playing for quite some time. Considering I haven't played poker in probably two years, and have never played the type we were playing (don't even remember what it's called), I didn't do TOO badly. Out of the six of us, I finished third the first two games and second the last. It was down to two of us that last game and I was ahead at one point. But that was a situation that demanded experience and/or vast quantities of luck, of which I had neither. So I'm out twelve bucks. But that's not too bad for a full night's entertainment. Lasted longer than, say, Lord of the Rings and a beverage would have for about the same amount.

The kids had fun, too, playing with my friend's kids, and they got to have cookies and chips well past bed time. They fizzled out around midnight, but fortunately we live five to seven minutes away, so we were home and back to sleep in barely enough time for them to notice I woke them up.

It feels kinda weird to be doing this, being out late with the kids playing games at friends houses. I remember being the kid at my parent's friends houses while they played cards, or dominos, or whatever. It just feels strange for it to be turned around. And for me to be becoming more like my parents.
