Last Call for... um... Sausage

For those who were interested in the second round of ordering Blue and Gold sausage for the kids' school fundraiser, now is the time. Orders are due by Monday, 6 October, so please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
Received the girl's school pictures today. They turned out pretty good. You can view them in the album.

Nuclear catastrophy avoided

In a previous post (that has been well commented upon), I alluded to the need to involve nuclear processes to rectify the wrongs of a dreadful day.

It is my pleasure to announce that the looming disaster has been avoided by the hard work of the faithful (sane) and the failure of evil to corrupt the righteousness of the ultimate outcome.

Phillies are out :(, but the Cubbies and BoSox are in. That's pretty cool. And wouldn't it make an uber series? I know, not likely it will happen, but it should be a GREAT October anyway. I was born for October. Okay okay, I was born IN October, but next to spring (when the baseball season starts) it is the best time of the year.

Last year, Cubbies = nearly last place; This year, Cubbies = division champs. Attributable only to Dusty Baker. The Bill Parcells of baseball. Now that the Phillies are out, I say Go Cubbies!

It was a really nice day outside today. Really wish I could have enjoyed more of that.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

How was your day?

Today was Shelby's first day of dance class at school. She's been in a dance classes before, but that was formal ballet type dance. This class is the basketball half-time sort of dance.

As practices are closed, I did not attend. She said she really liked it and doesn't want to quit. She has a sticker and said she got it for being the best dancer, and she showed me a slick dance move that she learned. Maybe someday I'll have movies on this site, too, and I can post such future cool maneuvers.

Darby had her first professional haircut today. For year's it's just been trims by her mother or friends. We just needed to get rid of the split ends...

Added a couple of pictures to the album. One of Shelby missing her first tooth and the other of Darby after her first haircut.

Shelby lost her first tooth today. It had been loose for awhile, and she, like her sister, looks to be a late tooth-loser.

I took the kids to see the movie Sinbad this evening. We missed it the first time around, so we saw it at the $1(.50) theater. Then we had dinner at Olive Garden down the street.

Third piano lesson for Darby, concluding a very, very long day. Parallel priorities were plentious. Where are the attacking clones when you need them?

Cast On, Cast Off

So I got back to OKC about 2pm today, following a 3 HOUR wait at DFW (airlines, please get a clue, you shouldn't have to wait at an airport the equivalent amount of time it would have taken to drive to your destination -- COME ON!).

After getting home and unpacking stuff, I went to pickup the girls at school early as Darby had a doctor appointment to check-up on her leg. The plan was supposed to be to get an air cast, but they didn't have any in her size, so she got a shorter regular cast instead. See the events page of the album for a few new cast photos.

Final Farewell to Grandpa George

The services for Grandpa George went well, considering. I didn't know until I got there, but I was a pallbearer. George was a devout Catholic, so the services were as such as well. There was a viewing, a rosary, and a mass, followed by a burial at a Catholic cemetary.

After the services there was a lunch gathering back at the church. Not sure how long his obituary would be online, so I have made it available here for those who haven't seen it.

Wasn't I just here?

Less than 90 days after I departed Tuscon, Arizona to conclude our summer vacation, I returned for a short visit to pay my respects to Grandpa George. I just got here, but 48-hours from now I'll be back at my home computer blogging about some other thing that hasn't happened yet.

A Fair Day

Cruised the State Fair of Oklahoma today. Checked out pretty much all the buildings.

Today was also the first day of Sunday school for the girls.

Party Number Six

Our sixth birthday party of the season, another skate party, went well, but man was it packed. There were NINE birthday parties happening at the same time in that place, and it wasn't that big of a rink. There were kids everywhere, dropping like flies, so much so that I didn't skate all that much because I didn't feel I couldn't break loose on my blades. I was always on the lookout for that next kid that was going to fall over in my path.

Shelby had a lot of fun. She skated quite a bit and played arcade games. Darby was at her mom's watching the OU game since she can't skate in a cast.

Tweaked the home page slightly, and added a poll.

Happy Birthday Mom

It's difficult to remember on such a sad day in history that it's also mom's birthday, so happy birthday mom.

Rest Peacefully Grandpa George

Grandpa George in Arizona passed away last night. We weren't too close in recent years, but spent a good deal of time together when I was a kid. Fortunately, I got to see him this past June when I took the kids out to visit family. Services are next Tuesday, and I think I'm going to make a quick flight out there to attend. It's the least I can do for my only known grandfather. Because of various family problems, I've never been able to know my father's father or my mother's father. Grandpa George is my father's stepfather, but as mentioned, he's all we've had.

Picture Day

Today was picture day at the girls' school. It'll probably be a month before I have proofs to post, and twice that before I get pics back to post in the album.

I also had pictures today. We did group pictures at the office. Actually they were taken outside near an aircraft. Since there are 200+ people in my office, the photographer was on an aircraft stand to take the pictures, but he orientated us so that we directly faced the sun. He took six pictures in a non-quick fashion, so by the end of it I felt like the back of my eyeballs were burned out. Oh, and he tried to help by saying not to look up until he blew his whistle, only there were loud aircraft maintenance sounds all around so none of us could hear that whistle. What a cloodge that was. Could have been executed much more wisely.

Where have you gone Kyra Ellison?

Old friend of mine from high school, you lurk here sometimes. Our last discussion was of your distress and I've not heard since. Alas your three known email addresses have died, and I've nothing left to try. Have you gone to NM? Are you still in NYC? Please, I say, get back to me.

Birthday Party Season continues

Our fifth party of the season is now behind us, with another one on the schedule for next weekend. On Saturday we went up to Tulsa for a sleepover party. I stayed at a nearby hotel while the girls had their fun with five other friends. Next weekend... a skate party!

The Window Has Closed for Blue and Gold

Today was the deadline for orders. However, if demand is high enough, they sometimes have a second round. Family and friends who failed to support my children's fundraising efforts the first go 'round (wink wink), let me know if you're interested and I'll put you on the list...
Second piano lesson for Darby went well. But we have much homework for the next lesson.

Two More Weeks of Castage

We had a checkup on Darby's leg today. To me it still looked pretty broke on the x-ray, but I'm no orthopedic specialist. The doctor said she may be able to be out of the cast completely in two more weeks. He asked Darby if she would like to remove the cast today and put a smaller one on and she said no. I think she was worried that it would hurt again.
